A sense of humor goes a long ways down there and good natured ribbing seems to be the rule more than the exception with guys like that. They like to give each other a hard time, but it's usually in jest. They are fairly respectful of women, but they are not going to compromise their principles in order to appease a Russian bride. Contrary to popular belief, Cowboys are not chauvinists that are only interested in keeping women in their place. On the contrary, men in the western states have always been very appreciative of women and understand the contributions they made due to the difficult lifestyles of their forefathers in homesteading the frontier and taming the west. A little research into U.S. history will reveal that women in this country first gained the right to vote in Wyoming (The Cowboy State) and was soon followed by other western states long before our counterparts in the east. Of course, if by saying Ukrainian women are stubborn and hot-tempered, you meant to say that they are not the type of women that would allow somebody to treat them like dirt and have a little respect for themselves as human beings, then I would agree with you that they indeed would be the type of women these "cowboys" would like to have as wives. I am also not sure if you are aware of what Texas is really like or if your idea of what Texas is really like comes primarily from Hollywood. While it was once primarily a state with an economy based primarily upon agriculture and the Oil and Gas industry, things have changed a lot in the past 50 years. Today, the state has a highly diversified economy in many areas such as Pharmaceuticals, Aerospace, Computers, Defense and Banking in addition to Agriculture and the Energy sector. It also has many top notch universities with great research capabilities. Texas is also now the second largest state in terms of population and is one of the fastest growing states in the U.S. Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio are all 3 of the ten largest cities in the country and more than 60% of the Texas population lives within the metropolitan areas of these cities. Sure, the guy that makes his living on a ranch or the oil field still exists, but it is more of an ode to the past than an accurate representation of the present day Texan.

I can tell you from my honest experience - with Ukrainian women and one particular Russia woman - my wife. I say this with no disrespect to UW :p
The UW I met, (about 10 over the years) all said that they felt as if they were Russian. My Russian wife says that there is a big difference between the two types of women. (she has close relatives that live in Ukraine).
But honestly, the cultures seem so alike, that I guess that a western man would have a hard time to notice the difference.

This is off-topic, but I had to tell you your description of my home and it's people warmed my heart. Much of it rings true, at least in my opinion.
My mother's family is still raising cattle after four generations. Although I chose to become an attorney (not much money in cattle these days), I still own horses and practice the "old ways."
