All the history and social-economics is great and all. Regardless, the only things that I considered before choosing which country to search for my wife is what blend of genes and what general motives one can expect. I'm partial to the blend of Slavic and Scand. features. Also, I prefer that my wife be and remain of a slender build. I'm not saying that there are any more of less slender women in the Ukraine, however a Russian bride who has remained slender throughout her 20s will perhaps have more of an affinity to move to a warmer place.

An in a light of those stereotypes such word combination like calm quiet ( leave alone submissive ) Ukrainian wife is just nonsense. And there is nothing "odd" in stick these words to "Russian wife".
Also no one is surprised with words "greedy hohols" - such description of nation is common in the same degree like "drunkard russian"

I've only been to Ukraine, though I'm considering visiting Russia later this year. What I write here is based on my experiences in Ukraine.
I get the impression that Ukraine is to Russia as Canada is to America. They are similar, but there are subtle differences. For one, Russians are generally richer than Ukrainians, with the average Russian salary about 50% more than Ukrainians. Given that, the cost of living in Russia should be higher than in Ukraine.
When I was in Kharkov I visited a new Russian restaurant in Constitution Square, and I also visited an authentic Ukrainian restaurant nearby. Comparing the two, one will notice differences in the tapestry, with the Russian more simpler. The Russian style is a more red and black theme, and patters are simpler. Ukrainian tapestry and style is absolutely astonishing, as the style is more colorful and elaborate, as beautiful flora enhance the colors. I have here a picture of Ukrainian folk singers singing a Ukrainian christmas-carol-type song to welcome the new year, taken one year ago to this day.
I absolutey love the traditional Ukrainian costumes, and I consider them the most beautiful on the planet. They know how to dress!
The language in Ukraine is different, too. Ukrainian is a completely different language, and compared to Russian it sounds softer.
One final point is that to further complicate the issue of Russia versus Ukraine, there is a division within Ukraine itself, nearly split in two, sort of east versus west. The eastern half is more Russian and the western more Ukrainian. That, however, is a different topic.

There was a post in here that stated, the difference between Ukrainians and Russians is akin to the difference between Russian living in Moscow from those out of Moscow. To which, I will agree to.
The love/hate tendencies, despite dark historical tragedies ( Russia / Ukraine ), still doesn't rival that of the Yankees and the Red Sox.

I think the above is largely true. I visited an RW who was living in Kyiv and she would, from time to time, complain about what amounts to Ukrainain nationalism. We were at a market and guy working there gave her a hard time when when she asked for something, but just gave it when I told him. She was really angry about that, and later said this happened b/c he was Ukrainian she was a Russian speaking to him in Russian, not Ukrainian. (Apparently, me being a foreigner, it was okay that I spoke Russian to the guy, but it could also have been that I am a man. Or that she was going on a bit, and I basically said, "Give me that one". *shrugs*)
