I have personal experience about this Russian bride wanting older men because they are more stable.
My Uzbek bride is 23 and I am 32. I thought it was pushing the age limits but an even broader age range was obtained by her slightly older sister. Her sister is 25 and her new husband (married in November 04) was 42. I have never approached the subject with her (and do not feel I should) that why the sudden rush for her family to get all the daughters married off (two in the family).
I know the country of Uzbekistan is not in the greatest economic growth and personal freedom. I have made it clear to my mother in law and brother in law that they are welcome to come to the States and live with us. They have not sad "no" but they were appreciative of the offer.
Interestingly enough my new sister in law (the one who was married in November) is already "with child". I can understand it because he is 42 and probably wanted to have children as soon as possible.
I know he is very stable and really makes the big bucks. He is a Brit living in South Africa. Obviously their family was not looking for a certain country to ship their daughters to, but as long as it was not their country they were happy.
I trust that she loves me for me, but I am sure because I was foreign it was a major motivator.

For sure it is not a bad thing that these women seek men who are 'stable'. (Can we let this be the euphemism for well off' ?)
Women have been doing it since Adam found a taste for apples, it is just that the economic disparity between most of the FSU and the US is acute.
We should not make the mistake of thinking that our living standard and 'stability' is in some way separate from us as people. They are not, they are a part of us, just as your wife's beauty is a part of her and you would not have married her if she were a hag!
So, a woman chooses to marry a relatively old guy because he is 'stable' and a man marries a young girl because she has a good pert pair of 'personalities'!

As far as my acquitance is concerned she is not looking for a better life, as both parents have a good job and she is studying psychology. Life in Europe or USA would not be much of an economic upgrade for this one.
Her reason for finding a foreign man is diferent, it is because of the Russian mentality. She has trouble finding a boyfriend because she is good-looking. The Russian boys think that a babe will have too many men chasing her. As a result the men are not interested in a stable relationship, and she has trouble finding a boyfried. But no trouble finding a one-night-stand.

I know it is amazing, but I disagree with Andrew on a number of points here:
My wife did not reject RM while she expanded her opportunities to meet foreign men via an agency. Quite frankly, the RM even had an advantage as she had never really considered leaving Russia seriously.
My wife usually was attracted to older men. Her most serious relationship (before ours) was with a RM that was almost 20 years her senior.
My wife didn't marry me for economic gain. She had had Russian boyfriends with unusually high economic status and cut the relationships off because of non-economic reasons.
My wife had opportunities to come to America with AM that were significantly younger and richer than me.
In closing, I would say that RW do not have the hang ups on age differences as many AW do. They seem to be much more open to the "up side" of more mature men. I even have witnessed this with RW already here in America. They seem to go for the guys significantly older than they are.
