I can relate. I think there is an interesting metamophisis that goes on in the process for some of us. For me the first challenge was overcoming the temptation to search for women in their 20s - considering my age. Check on that. Then I did endless searches for women in their mid 30s to early 40s with no children. Because I have none. Although I have been a step parent. It's a tough job and can take many years to develop good relationship. Invisible bitterness is hard to overcome and often it's directed at you, the step parent.
At a point in my search I gave up looking for a Russian bride without children and focused instead on the qualities of the woman. It just seems more important in the long run. And there is always the possbility of being blessed by the child. Besides even though I don't have a child I haven't danced through this life without accumulating some liabilties myself.
I also learned a lesson about what these ladies were saying in their letters. The swooning sounds good at first but it came to me that this was also BS. No I am not anyones sweetheart, at least until we meet and spend time together. I resolved to exclude these women from my search.
Now my efforts seemed to be paying off. If I have done my homework correctly what I have now is not a RW/AM realtionship but a proper realtionship between and man and a woman - let's call it normal. I don't feel threatened or affected by age differences or any other so-called pitfall of this process. And I don't feel the need to prove that to anyone - not even my family. They too have been affected by the MOB propoganda. I can see that even when you've found the right person perception is a tough battle to fight.

You are right. This is why I told you that you were in for a lot of trouble after your trip report.
It is something I realized very early, that a RW will always be considered a gold digger by many people. This will be a continuing fight for as long as they will have the sexy accent.
As fas as the age differences are concerned (and look at the poll to see how the distribution is here ), there is one thing that remains common.
RW are confronted with a pool of relatively older men. But the men are finding a relatively young pool of RW. Look at any site to find RW over 40 and it is a real challenge, where as there are many in their 20's and 30's.
Just as the women will look for the best suited (economy and emotionally included) man, the men will look for the best women.
And as Leila points out, a young woman does have an attraction for a man.
Women use different selection criteria as men do. Not only this discussion or the statistical evidence makes it clear. But at the same time women are not presented the same kind of pool to choose from. If that would be the case, their selection criteria would be different.

Anyway I agree, her dad is 5 years older than me yet he seems like my dad. Not cos he looks particularly old mind, but they the way he is. In fact, same annoyances as my dad! Like trying to recharge non-rechargeable batteries in the charger! my dad, my dad!!
He knows they won't recharge but he has to see!
I still maintain there is an East-West generation skew for folks brought up in Soviet era. I feel that maybe accounts for us old Westerners with young russian girlfriends. I'll be 82 in June, and Nadia is 16 and three quarters.
She has never asked for a yacht, I don't have any. Nothing with sails anyway. 80ft cruiser in the smallest I have.

I have stated it before, and I will now state it again: It seems to me that you are a very closeminded and very insecure individual. I am not taking up for Billy as he is a grown man and more than able to handle his business, but you take the cake!
I guess people are stupid, ignorant, or what have you ("unable to think") if they do not agree with your twisted, outlandish opinions. Perhaps if you would not put a blatent spin on statistics which look at average domestic - not international marriages - then people might not be so harsh with you. And yes, I have "lost patience" with you as it seems that it is you who is unable to debate an opinion without demeaning others. *shakes head*
