I concur with your sentiments regarding salary, and how it's perceived across the board. But, like a brand name, you are paying for a state that likes to flood it's borders with illegal immigrants. I'm sorry, I can't relate to your query, the National Poverty Guidelines link I posted were for the entire USA, they do not make allowance for WHERE you live within the USA. If you look at the charts, there are higher exceptions for places like Hawaii, Wash DC, and Alaska,,,,(IIRC), I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I looked. Frankly, it isn't a concern of mine since I exceed the minimums it's not something I dwell upon, thanks God.
I understand the nature of the question and I'd simply say you should look at your own lifestyle and ask the question, "Is this something I'd ask someone to share?". If you are living in humble conditions you are ashamed to invite friends to see, maybe you shouldn't be thinking about a wife at this time. As you noted, 50K may be substandard conditions for southern California and you might be living under a bridge making that salary, while in another part of the country 50K makes you a pillar of the community.
We are mostly adults here, please don't ask someone else to do your thinking for you. You KNOW if you can afford a family or not, if you have a question on that score, the answer is probably no.

It's really no joke. Sometimes I feel as though that Kali is the perfect place to live then I hear people talk about 'if you make this much you should be in great shape'. It doesn't compute properly here...I don't live luxuriously and I have a great income - company gives me a new car every 3 years with all the expenses along with it, etc...man-oh-man, if I lived elsewhere I can be king, but in Kali I'm just part of the pound.

to answer your question, you don't need to wait until you file your 2004 tax return in order to file the K-1. You need to show the latest tax records at the embassy interview stage, which can be quite some time down the road from filing the K-1 depending on which service center you file through.
Additionally at that time you can submit a letter of employment stating your annual salary, along with substantiation in the form of copies of your paychecks.

I am moving to NYC, so that my Russian bride can get a MBA!!!!! I'm leaving a 6,000 sq. ft. home, for a simple flat in Manhattan, and cheap there would be about $1200 a month in rent... I can manage, but it will be a big commitment to do so!!!!!! I realize that, I hope you are of the same cloth... Inthat, I hope you may consider the possibilities for you and her, and plan accordingly....Because, your RW will need alot of help and attention!!!!!!! Think it through!........
